BLENDING BACKSTORIES

The Aibel/Berger script suggests the same intertwined backstory for the titans as the Goyer/Robinson draft, which itself was lifted from the Reiff/Voris draft. That is to say that Freddy was briefly a camp counselor at Crystal Lake during which time he sexually abused Jason. When his victim told others about the abuse, Freddy was fired from his job at the camp. On his way out of town, the future Springwood Slasher took revenge upon the boy by drowning him and staging it as an accident. This backstory’s appearance here (and in the next draft) make it the most prominent co-origin given for the characters in the project’s history. In a unique addition to this tale, we get a brief glimpse of what teenage Freddy was like beyond murdering young Jason. This draft shows him playfully chasing after children, who appear to be delighting in his game, blissfully unaware of the danger in their midst. As he follows after them, Freddy sings a chillingly familiar tune. (“One, Two, Freddy’s comin’ for you,”) In this context, it is a disturbing moment. Curiously, Aibel and Berger write that young Freddy is dressed in a “brand new green and red striped sweater,” which seems like rather inappropriate wardrobe for a summer camp, but to each their own.
